Jill is an amazing doula and I am so grateful to have had her support through the birth of our first child. At every stage, from pre- to postpartum, Jill provided the knowledge and reassurance that we needed as we navigated a lot of firsts.
I wanted to have an unmedicated, midwife hospital delivery but was worried that complications might arise due to my “advanced maternal age” (38). In the weeks leading up to my due date, Jill helped me make a birth plan and led me and my partner through exercises that allayed a lot of my fears and helped us feel more prepared.
When my due date came and went, Jill helped me talk through the different possibilities, as I was hoping to avoid a hospital induction. When I did go into labor spontaneously a few days later, my contractions were immediately so short and close together I thought at first that it was false labor, but Jill heard me on the phone and told me I should call my midwife and head to the hospital, and she met us there. I made it to the hospital just as I started active labor – without Jill’s advice, I would have probably waited at home far too long.
During labor and delivery, Jill was incredibly helpful and reassuring. She recommended different positions, gave my husband ways to support me, helped me make decisions, and provided the calm, steady encouragement that I needed. Thanks to Jill’s assistance, I was able to have the unmedicated labor and delivery that I had hoped for.
I highly recommend Jill and hope to have her by my side for any future pregnancies.
