Frequently asked questions.
Are doulas allowed in hospitals during Covid?
Yes! Although Covid policies are constantly changing, currently all Portland area hospitals are allowing certified doulas in addition to your partner. Doulas can stay during the labor, and are encouraged to leave shortly after the birth in order to limit exposure. They need to be able to show certification (which I can) when entering the hospital.
Are you fully vaccinated for Covid?
Yes, I am fully vaccinated for Covid.
Are doulas just for people who want an unmedicated birth?
No! Everyone benefits by having a doula at their birth, no matter how it unfolds. Doulas definitely help with comfort measures and getting through the toughest parts of an unmedicated labor, but we also are trained in helping with positioning and movement when you have an epidural to help the progress of the baby. We are beneficial if you have a cesarean birth (scheduled or unscheduled) by walking you through your decisions, and helping it to be as family centered as possible.
What is your service area?
I am located in Tigard, Oregon, but I serve clients throughout the greater Portland area and beyond. I will travel 30 miles from my home at my normal fee, and up to 50 miles with an additional small fee. Included in this area are cities like Forest Grove, McMinnville, Salem, Battle Ground, and Sandy.
Will my partner feel like they are being replaced by a doula?
Absolutely not, I do my best to bring you together as a family, and not replace anyone. See my blog post about it here.
