What do you need to know before hiring a doula? Look no further! Here are some important questions to ask so you can make the very best decision with who to have on your birth team.

The doula you are interviewing likely has a list of questions themselves, and a lot of these are likely to be answered throughout the conversation, but these are great to add in at the end if they have not been answered!

  1. Am I in your service area, and are you available on my due date?

  2. How much do you charge for your services, and what does that include? Do you have payment plans available if needed?

  3. How long have you been a doula?

  4. What organization did you train with? Are you certified?

  5. What is your experience attending my intended type of birth (hospital, unmedicated, home birth, cesarean, etc.)

  6. What roles do you view a doula playing throughout this process?

  7. What does your prenatal and postpartum support look like?

  8. What tools do you bring with you to a birth?

  9. Do you have a back up in case you can’t make it to the birth? Can I meet them if I think that’s important?

  10. What other services do you offer aside from birth support?
