How do I find the right Doula near me?

You deserve the very best support person that matches you and your partner at your birth. But when you look up “Doula Near Me” on Google, so many doulas pop up! Where do you start with your search??

The first thing to do is to go to Doula Match or DONA.org and look up some doulas who might be available near you. With Doula Match, you are shown only doulas available for your due date. Also remember that it is helpful to see certifications, and definitely read testimonials!

Look up the websites of the doulas who sound like they might be a good fit. Read their Bios (this might be in the “About the Doula” section or even on their main page). Do they still sound like a good fit?

If so…

  • Reach out! Fill out their “Contact Me” form, send them an e-mail, give them a quick phone call. Most doulas will set up a free consultation so you can ask each other questions and get a feel for if they would be your best support person.

    • Ask lots of questions! What made them interested in becoming a doula? What is their favorite type of birth to attend? How long have they been interested in birth?

See my blog post “Questions to Ask a Birth Doula Before Signing the Contract” HERE for more ideas.

  • Once you’ve “Interviewed” with several doulas, choose the ONE with whom you feel most comfortable, safe, and supported.

  • Don’t just go by price. (I get it, this is a big issue for most people.) But interview with doulas at several price points, you may have an amazing fit with someone slightly above or below your price range, and you’ll do anything to have their support.

Once you’ve found the right doula, you’ll know!!

And as always, I’d love to chat about your birth to see if I’m that person for YOU. My form is HERE.
